Event Summary:
This annual event aims to strengthen the working relationship between schools and universities, and specifically to focus on the ways in which we all guide students through the challenging transition to Higher Education.
Full Event Details:
The conference will include three sessions as follows:
a) Writing about unseen poems, in which we will set exam board specifications alongside the kinds of analysis expected at degree level. (We will agree on three poems in advance of the event);
b) Academic Referencing and Plagiarism, in which my colleague Dr Susan Civale will speak about the ways we develop skills in academic research with our first year students;
c) General Discussion in which we hope to range broadly over such questions as these:
• What is expected of our Year 1 students and how does this compare with the expectations at A Level?
• How are independent learning skills fostered at A-Level, and how might they be most effectively developed at University?
• What guidance should students receive about the transition to university?
• What form would be most useful for our annual A-Level Study Days? How useful are they, and in what ways might they be improved?
