Year 12 Summer University 2016

Monday 11th July-Wednesday 13th July

Each year Liverpool Hope offers Year 12 (Year 13 in Northern Ireland) students from across the UK the opportunity to attend our Summer University. You’ll undertake an academic programme in a subject you are interested in and there will be a range of social activities to complement this. You will stay on campus in our student accommodation with other students who are attending the Summer University. Summer University is free to attend, we only ask that you pay for your transport to Liverpool.

Subject Areas

Our departments are offering a range of exciting and interactive subjects which will run during the residential. Applicants must select one specific programme they wish to follow throughout the residential stay:

Art & Design
Students will get to do practical work in our specialist studios.

Biological Sciences
Students will engage in practical work in our brand new Health Sciences building which has specialist Bioscience labs.

Criminology
Students will have the opportunity to explore key areas of Criminology.

Drama
Students will get to do practical work in our drama theatres.

Early Childhood/Special Educational Needs
Students will explore themes in Early Childhood Studies and Special Educational Needs Studies.

English Literature
Students will develop their understanding of key areas of English Literature.

Health & Social Care
Students will have the opportunity to experience Health & Social Care at degree level.

History & Politics
Students will have the opportunity to experience History & Politics at degree level.

Mathematics
Students will learning some of the key skills needed to tackle a real life mathematical modelling problem. As well as theoretical methods, students will be taught the basics of numerical mathematics using various packages such as Matlab and Excel.

Media & Communication
Students will explore different aspects of Media and Communication.

Psychology
Students will have the opportunity to explore key areas of Psychology.

Sociology
Students will have the opportunity to explore key areas of Sociology.

Sport
Students will engage in practical work in our brand new Health Sciences building which has specialist Sports facilities.

Theology, Philosophy and Religious Studies
Students will explore different aspects of Theology, Philosophy and Religious Studies.

If a programme is not viable to run you will be contacted and offered an alternative choice.

Who is the Summer University for?
The Summer University is for Year 12 students (Year 13 in Northern Ireland). All students must be on target to achieve a minimum of 280 UCAS points. We would particularly welcome students who can demonstrate a firm intention of applying for a course at Liverpool Hope University.

Applying for the Summer University
Step 1: If you would like to apply for the Summer University check the dates with your teachers and your parents; make sure they don’t clash with your commitments. When you are certain you can attend complete the online form and select a programme you wish to take part in.

Step 2: Once we have received your application we will process it and contact you and your parent(s) or carer(s) for some additional information. We will also contact your Head of Sixth Form or Form Tutor for some further details. Once we receive these completed forms you will be contacted via email to confirm if you have been successful in securing a place. The deadline for completing and returning the full application is Friday 6th May.

Step 3: We’ll send you an information pack during May. All you need to do is to arrange your travel to Liverpool and pack your bags.
