It will also allow students to interact with lecturers from the UK’s top Music Department for research (Research Assessment Exercise 2008).

Although the taster day is primarily aimed at A-level music students who are currently in year 12, we also welcome other students considering the study of music at university (for example, A-level students in year 13, and Access to Music or BTEC students).

Attendees will have a choice of options for each session. Last year’s taster day included lectures on ‘Baroque opera and the castrato: Handel and Farinelli’, ‘Film Music: Titanic’, ‘Wagner, sex and capitalism’, and ‘Arranging for Orchestra’, alongside workshops in Solo Performance (classical) and Korean drumming, and a session on careers in music.
