J Craig Venter, one of the first biologists to sequence the human genome, energised the growing ‘postracial’ perspective within the biological, social and human sciences by declaring that ‘There is no basis in the genetic code for race’.
Full Event Details:
This lecture will introduce the postracial perspective and outline its argument against the continued use of race as a valid concept and category. We will also consider the dilemmas facing the postracial perspective given the ‘social reality’ of race whereby life expectancy, life chances and quality can vary significantly by racial group.
