Full event details

From Formula One drivers experiencing drag during a race, to aeroplane passengers suffering a bumpy flight, everyone will have experienced turbulence, the mixing of high- and low-speed air in the atmosphere. Understanding turbulence is one of the key unsolved problems in science to date. In this two day (non-residential) Mathematics course Year 12 students studying Mathematics will be exposed to a range of research frontier tools in trying to understand the elusive world of turbulence. Over the course of this project, we will be studying prototype shear flows and their stability properties to have a feel of the mathematical intricacies of turbulence, drawing from world leading research. If your students are considering a future in Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics and want to explore their Higher Education options then this is the course for them.
