IET Faraday Engineering Challenge Day for Year 8 Students

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) aims to encourage more young people to engage in the STEM agenda and consider engineering as a possible career path. The Engineering Challenge will help to develop students’ abilities in team-work, design and manufacture and will enhance their presentation skills. Prizes will be awarded to each member of the winning team on the day, and each participating student will receive a “goody pack”.

There will be a total of 6 teams participating in this Challenge and we would like to invite schools to enter a team.

Schools can enter 1 team, with a maximum of 6 students. For the purposes of the Challenge, the team should ideally consist of: two students with a strong interest in science; two students that are studying, with a strong interest in design and technology and two students that show a strong interest in mathematics. The IET would like the students to be those who have made the greatest progress over the last 12 months or those who would benefit the most from this opportunity.

Participation in the Challenge is free and no additional preparation needs to be undertaken by the students. The event organisers at the IET have requested that students bring a packed lunch and wear school uniform on the day of the Challenge.

As places are limited, booking is essential. Early booking is advisable as places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
