Day One Tuesday 23rd June

9:30 Arrive and introduction

10:00 Campus Tour with Student Ambassadors

St Mary’s Student Ambassadors will take you on a tour of our campus, speak to you about what it is like to be a student at St Mary’s and answer any questions that you might have.

11:00 Introduction to Law and Politics and Law

We will be focussing on the sources of law and the institutions responsible for the creation of law and how these link in to politics as we know it.

12:30 Lunch
1:30 Law Session 2 – Introduction to Criminal Law

This session will give students an introduction to the basic principles of a criminal offence. A crime is made up of two parts (a guilty act and a guilty mind); we will be exploring what this means using the example of the law of murder.

Day Two Wednesday 24th June

9:30 Arrive and introduction

10:00 Law Session 3 – Mock Trial

This will be a practical session with the students participating in a mock trial. We will focus on the criminal trial and its procedure. Students will be given guidance and material, and asked to play the roles of court personnel. This session is designed to put theoretical law into practice.

11:30 Break

11:45 Applying for university session

This session will inform you of the things that you need to think about when applying for university.

12:45 Lunch
1:45 Law Session 4 – Sports Law
'A day at the football' - an interactive workshop looking at the potential legal implications that may arise following a visit to a Premier League football match. Criminal and civil law, employment law and intellectual property rights all may have been infringed before the final whistle is blown.
