Number of participants: 15-30
Time: 10am-2pm, 23 June

Examining the effect of exercise on cardiovascular system: In the practical exercise we will measure a variety of parameters including heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate and ECG before and after 5-10 minutes of moderate exercise on an exercise bike. We will then provide a short lecture to explain the function of the cardiovascular system and to explain how the body is able to make adjustments during exercise to meet the increase demand for oxygen.

Examining the respiratory system: In the practical exercise we will use spirometers to measure a variety of respiratory parameters including vital capacity (VC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEC1), forced expiratory ratio (FER%) and peak expiratory flow. We will then provide a short lecture to explain the function of the respiratory system and to explain how these measurements can be used in the management/diagnosis of respiratory diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis and emphysema.
