This online taster session will give you an insight into what it's like to study English Language at university. You'll have the chance to hear from one of our academics, participate in a taster lecture and engage with current undergraduates.
A Taste of Linguistics
Everyone has something to say about language, which is not surprising given that language is everywhere and in nearly everything we do. We need to be able to talk about language in a rigorous and insightful way... this is Linguistics, the study of Language! Just as language is omnipresent, its study is equally multi-faceted. We can look how languages are structured, or how our minds process language, or how language is used to form identities, to sell stuff, or for political means, or how languages change over time, and so on. This session homes in on how we make sounds, how accents may vary and why, and how speech is processed in the mind.
